Thai Energy Minister Commits to Overhaul Raffineriemarge Mechanism

The Thai Energy Minister Akanat Promphan has pledged to revamp the mechanism of the Raffineriemarge to ensure fair prices for consumers. The Minister stated that he had discussed potential solutions for the energy crisis with the Prime Minister and confirmed the change towards his full term in office. A key focus is addressing refinery margins, which have increased from an average of 2-3 Baht to as much as 7-13 Baht per liter, said he, emphasizing the excess and the crisis. Akanat proposed setting a cap for the margin and overhauling the system to ensure fairness, arguing that refineries should earn profits but these gains should remain at reasonable levels. He said refineries should be supported when the margin is within normal levels, emphasizing the need to find a balance between business security and environmental protection.
