Lamai Beach

Ko Samui Nature

Among the renowned best beaches in all of Thailand is one in particular, in Koh Samui, that goes by the name of Lamai beach. Like all other beaches in Thailand, it boasts some stunningly clean sands and crystalline waters, but there’s something about the place that can only be described through experience.

The coastlines of Koh Samui are some of the most famous in the world, and in the country of Thailand especially. Thousands flock to them annually, hoping to experience their sought-after leisure and beauty for themselves. On no other beach, however, is this feeling of nirvana and tropical relaxation more apparent than Lamai.

Located roughly six kilometres from Chaweng beach, Lamai is the second largest resort on the island of Koh Samui, after Chaweng itself. Chaweng is also known to be far more popular – and therefore gathers more tourists, typically. Lamai beach is still a hot tourist destination, but if you’re the type that seeks peace and quiet, this makes it all the better a choice. The North side of Lamai beach tends to be quieter, whereas the Southern side is often more populous.

You’ll find Lamai on the East coast of Koh Samui, with its entire length lined with various bars offering up all sorts of cold drinks and beverages, and markets selling many products that range from local to foreign. A great opportunity to try some Thai products that you may be unfamiliar with – or stick with what you know, if you prefer!

Enough activity to go around for any kind of beachgoer. Whether you prefer sunbathing or relaxing on the beach’s pristine sands, or taking a dive and a swim in the clear waters. Many of the shops along the beachfront sell/rent diving equipment too, as well as offering trips to Koh Tao for some of the best diving spots.

The night life around Lamai beach resort isn’t to be missed either, with a night market opening up every Sunday. The night market is enough of a reason to visit Lamai beach in itself, featuring live, festive music and offering various commodities for you to enjoy. These range from the deliciously fresh fish, to the odd but tasty fried insects. And if neither of those sound like your particular style, then the caramelized coconut sweet galamae ought to turn things around.

The Central Plaza is the place to be, in terms of finding the best nightlife. It’s here where you’ll find plenty of beers and snacks, as well as festive locals to satisfy your flavour for a foreign adventure.

Overall, Lamai beach offers just about everything a tourist could look for. It’s one of the most beautiful spots to be in all of Thailand, and one of the friendliest to boot. Whether you’re looking for a family trip, or a journey to see some of the most gorgeous sights in the world – or even a tour through Thai culture, there’s no doubt that Lamai beach is the place to satisfy all curiosities.
